ANGUL/BHUBANESWAR: Naveen Jindal, the Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) , on Thursday performed Bhumi Pujan for the company’s expansion projects in Odisha’s coal bearing Angul, the home turf of Union Steel-PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Our Chairman Shri @MPNaveenJindal at the bhoomi poojan/ground breaking ceremony of World’s largest Grate-Kiln, 6 MTPA pellet plant at JSPL Angul, Odisha,” JSPL tweeted@JSPLCorporate.
JSPL’s integrated steel plant in Angul reported the highest ever monthly production to 4.16 lakh tonnes earlier this month. The JSPL after bagging the Gare Palama Coal block in Chhattisgarh is now seriously looking for Chendipada Coal block under Talcher Coal Fields of Odisha’s Angul.
Earlier in November 2020, an expansion project of Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s(JSPL) integrated steel plant in Angul from 6 MTPA to 18.6 MTPA, 36 MTPA slurry pipeline and 12.5 MTPA cement plant against an investment of Rs. 76,018 crore with potential employment opportunities for over 24,350 persons in two phases was approved by 24th high level clearance authority (HLCA) chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
JSPL operates the world’s first coal gasification based DRI plant of 2.0 million tonne capacity at Angul in Odisha, where syngas is used to make direct-reduced iron (DRI) or sponge iron, an input required in the steel-making process. JSPL’s coal gasification plant capacity is 225,000 NM3 per hour of syngas, which is supporting the 2.0 million MT of syngas based DRI plant.JSPL currently has a requirement of around 5.5 million MT per year of metallurgical coal and 7 million MT of thermal coal requirements.
The doubling of 13.5 km track between Kerajang and Angul, a part of the doubling of Sambalpur-Talcher link , will help JSPL in view of loading as this line is very important as it will have a surge from 3 to 6 MT from JSPL siding.
