BHUBANESWAR: The newly appointed Vice Chief of Indian Army, Lieutenant General CP Mohanty on Wednesday called on Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal at Raj Bhawan here during his visit to his home State after being elevated in Indian Army.
“Lt.General Chandi Prasad Mohanty,AVSM,SM,VSM, Army Commander, Southern Command accompanied by Brig.Prashant Chauhan,SM ,Commander,Chhatisgarh & Odisha Sub Area called on Hon’ble Governor at Rajbhavan today. Hon’ble Governor wished him the very best for his new responsibility,” Odisha Raj Bhawan said. Governor’s Secretray, Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda also present during the meeting.
Lt General Mohanty also visited Sainik School in Bhubaneswar and interacted with media there, sources said. He has also visited his native Jagatsinghpur district.
Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, was earlier served as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, and few days back, he was elevated as the new vice chief of Army Staff. The Odia Army officer is a native of Jayabada village in Jagatsingpur.
Lt General Mohanty became the first Odia officer to be appointed as the Vice Chief, the second highest appointment in Indian Army after Chief of Army Staff. He will replace Lt Gen SK Saini, who is retiring on January 31, 2021.
Chandi Prasad is the eldest son of JK Mohanty and Late Dr. Sarada Kumari Mohanty of Jayabada in Jagatsinghpur town. His mother Late Dr. Sarada Kumari was the first lady PhD in Odia Literature and his father JK Mohanty retired as the District Sub Registrar of Puri.
One of his brother KP Mohanty is working as the General Manager in Indian oil Corporation in Panipat whereas the other Mr. DP Mohanty is an advocate.
Chandi Prasad studied up to Class VI at Bagashai UP School and then went to the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun. He completed his military training in the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He is a 1982 batch Infantry Officer of Rajput Regiment.
