KORAPUT: According to source A Ramesh Patra of Kumuliput, owner of Sri Lakshmi Modern rice mill in Perahandi was returning home in his car when culprits who had been following him in another vehicle, intercepted him near Perahandi Chowk of Boriguma block at around 8.15 pm as Patra did not come out of his car, the miscreants broke the front glass and open the vehicle’s window and kidnapped him. As patra did no return home, his family filed a missing complaint at Borigumma police.
Acting in a tip off a mid-night operation was carried by Koraput police under the direction of SP Abhinav Sonkar a team lead by Boriguma SDPO Tapaswini Kanhar and Jeypore SDPO Ankit Verma along with IIC Boriguma Jugal Kishore, IIC Jeypore Sadar Iswar Tandi, IIC Jeypore Town police station Ramuni ranjan Dolai ,IIC Sunabeda Satyanarayan Patra had conducted raids and raided hideouts in Semiliguda, Pottangi and Jeypore to trace Patra and after getting valid sources the victim was rescued from Semiliguda within two days after his abduction and was handed over to his family at Jeypore Sadar police station after he was medically examined at the district headquarters hospital here.
Sources said a ransom demand of Rs 70 lakh where made to the victims family after the abduction out of which 25 lakhs where taken by the kidnapper among which 24 lakhs 84 thousand recovered by police.
On Thursday, in a press conference at Boriguma police station SP Koraput Abhinav Sonkar along with SDPO Jeypore Ankit Verma and SDPO Boriguma Tapaswini Kanhar and IIC of respective police station said a total of 15 persons where involved in the case registered at boriguma PS CASE NO. 164 DTD.13.7.2024
U/S- 140(2)/ 3(5) BNS out of which 13 have been arrested and 2 of the accused will be soon taken in custody and rleased the names of 13 accused involved in kidnapping the rice miller A Ramesh patra among whom the prime accused is Abhijeet Mahuria alias ( Jeet Mahuria) who has a total of 12 cases registered in different PS Tulu Khosla and Santosh beniya alias (Sanjay suna) who are involved in 4 cases in different PS Junesh Nag , praveena Mahuria 2 cases each, Firoj Nag, Rohit Suna , Minakshi Mahuria 1 cases each along with Taranum Begum, Roshan Bagh, Prasad Khillo, Damu Nayak , and Prasad Harijon where arrested and forwarded while three country made pistols live ammunition, iron rods two car and a bike along with twenty four lakh eighty four thousand recovered from the accused. Four of the total accused are from one family and the master mind of the kidnapping.
