KENDRAPARA/ABHUBANESWAR: The first Covid death in Kendrapada district was reported on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sumant Kumar Palei (49) of Kusumi village under Aul block, informed Collector Samarth Verma.
Palei was also suffering from co-morbid ailments. He had come from New Delhi last month and was kept in a TMC (Temporary Medical Centre) before being shifted to Covid Hospital at Cuttack-based Ashwini Hospital, where he died.
With six more Covid deaths on Wednesday, the total death toll rose to 48 in the State. Ganjam district reported the maximum number of three new deaths while Kendrapada, Khordha and Rayagada districts reported one each.
The casualties included a 55-year old man of Bhubaneswar, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.
Meanwhile, on the day as many as 527 persons tested positive for the virus including 338 from quarantine centres and 189 as local contacts in the State. With this, the total tally shot up to 10, 624.
While the day’s highest 215 cases were reported from Ganjam district, it was followed by Sundargarh with 78, Khordha 50, Baleswar 26, Jajpur 25, Balangir 21, Nayagarh 18, Cuttack 17, Puri 16, Mayurbhanj 10, Keonjhar seven, Koraput six and Subarnapur five.
Besides, four cases each were detected from Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda and Nuapada. Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur while Gajapati and Malkangiri reported three each, Bhadrak two and Angul, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and Sambalpur reported one each.
However, 303 more patients recovered on Wednesday, It was the highest single-day recovery so far. As many as 7,006 patients have recuperated so far.
Of the total recoveries, the highest 120 were reported from Ganjam, followed by 46 from Jajpur, 28 from Khordha, 21 from Cuttack, 16 from Keonjhar, 14 from Nayagarh, nine from Nabarangpur, seven from Puri, six from Bargarh, five each from Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj, four each from Angul and Nuapada, three each from Baleswar, Kendrapada and Sambalpur and one each from Balangir, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
