Kendrapara Firecrackers Mishap: 1 succumbed to burn injures, 3 Arrested, NHRC seeks report

KENDRAPARA/BHUBANESWAR: The National Human Rights Commission has sought report from Kendrapara Collector Amrit Ruturaj. One Pradip Martha of Laxmi Sagar , Bhubaneswar has approached NHRC seeking action against district administration.

One of the critically injured persons in the Kendrapara firecrackers mishap succumbed to fatal burns while undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Udaya Bhoi. He was admitted to the ICU of the Special Burns ward at the SCB.  Bhoi had allegedly taken part in the fireworks competition arranged by the puja committee at Balia Bazaar during Lord Kartikeshawr idol immersion on Wednesday.

Earlier today, police arrested three persons in connection with the explosion of firecrackers that left over 30 injured at Balia Bazar in Kendrapara on Wednesday. Sadar police registered a case suo motu and arrested Gulu Mallik (27), Arakhita Mallik (30) and Silu Das (27) under different sections of IPC and Fire Work and Loud Speaker Act and Indian Explosive Act. They have been sent to jail after their bail petitions were rejected by a local court.
