JAJPUR/BHUBANESWAR: ADM of Kalinga Nagar under Odisha’s industrial rich Jajpur, Santosh Kumar Mishra said that the JSW Cement company has been flouting environmental norms since its inception. The Rs 318 crore facility of JSW Cement at Kalinga Nagar is now under scanner.

He said till date the JSW has not planted a single tree. ADM Mishra said the company is not paying heed to the direction of the administration on checking air pollution and solving employment issues. The authorities have not taken any step in this regard. Mishra said the administration will investigate the issues and take appropriate action against the erring staff of the cement company.

The JSW authorities admitted that the company has not taken up afforestation projects in the region, but said modern equipment have been provided to the community health centre at Danagadi.

The JSW has taken over 15 acre of land from 1240 acre earmarked for Jindal Stainless at Kalinga Nagar. Nearly 159 families who were ousted from their land due to the cement factory are yet to be rehabilitated. The company, it is alleged, is not paying heed to their pleas for employment.

The Government guidelines said that the company has to spend two percent of its proceeds on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). But, till date there is no information with the local administration as to what has been done for the welfare of the masses. In the public hearing meet the cement company has agreed to provide employment to 158 persons but till date it has remained as an empty promise.
