NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister for Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday said that the Naveen Jindal owned Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s(JSPL) Angul Facility in Odisha , has supplied 2963.37 Tonnes of LMO from 01.04.21 to 25.07.21.
The Plant, in the coal bearing Angul has 100 Tonnes production capacity of LMO per day.
It may be noted here that, in the next 10 years, JSPL will invest more than 1 lakh crore rupees and create huge employment opportunities in Odisha. Such decisions will go a long way in boosting industry confidence & propel our efforts towards building a prosperous Odisha and a self-reliant India,”the JSPL Chairman had earlier announced. JSPL-Angul played a key role in LMO supply across India. Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s Angul project, became largest single location Steel plant capacity in the World.

Vijayanagar, (Linde PLC) 28023.6 , JSW Steel Ltd. Vijayanagar works (Air Water), 5891.945, JSW Steel Ltd. Vijayanagar works (IGPL) 7184.74 , JSW Steel Ltd., Dolvi (Own) 13512.3 , JSW Steel Ltd., Dolvi (Own 2) 9414.23 , JSW Steel Ltd., Salem 1696.57, Vedanta ESL, Bokaro.474.44 , JSW- BPSL, Jharsuguda 718.9 and Kalyani Steel, Hospet 6600.3 . Private players.
Both Public and private steel makers supplied 230262 MT LMO to various States during this period.The Minister said, during the second wave of pandemic, the public and private sector steel plants together supplied 230262 tonnes of LMO between 1st April – 25th July, 2021. The plant-wise details in this regard are given in Annexure-I.
During peak of the second wave, steel sector had enhanced the LMO production considerably. As against 538 MT of LMO supplied on April 01, 2021, the supply of LMO peaked to 4749 MT on May 13, 2021. State-wise details of LMO supplied during April-July, 2021 are given in Annexure-II. Measures taken by the steel plants to increase production of LMO in the country included the following:- Reduced production of liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Argon.Reduced usage of gaseous oxygen thereby reducing steel produced.
The enhanced production of LMO by reducing usage of gaseous oxygen led to reduced production of steel by about 500,000 tonnes during the period April-June, 2021.The LMO produced in steel plants were supplied to 22 states/UTs as indicated in Annexure-II utilizing transportation modes of road, Oxygen express (Railways) and transport aircrafts of the Air Force, the Minister added. SAIL Bhilai, SAIL Bhilai (BOO Plant Linde), SAIL Bokaro, SAIL Bokaro (BOO Plant Inox) , SAIL Durgapur, SAIL Durgapur (BOO Plant Linde), SAIL Raurkela, SAIL Raurkela (BOO Plant Linde), SAIL Burnpur and RINL Vishakhapatnam have also supplied LMO, he added.
