BHUBANESWAR: The Jindal Steel and Power Chairman and former 2times Lok Sabha MP, Naveen Jindal on Sunday expressed his deep condolences on the sad demise of eminent author, writer, documentary maker and war Journalist , Gita Mehta, who passed away at the age of 80 on Saturday night. Mehta was daughter of legendary freedom fighter and former Chief Minister late Biju Patnaik.
Gita Mehta, who had in 2019 lost her husband, and noted editor, Sonney Mehta, was also elder sister of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and younger to Naveen’s Industrialist brother Prem Patnaik.
In an X post, JSP Chairman Naveen Jindal said, Gita Mehta was deeply rooted in Odiya culture and was a renowned author, journalist and filmmaker of international repute.
“Gita Mehta ji was a renowned author, journalist and filmmaker of international repute. Daughter of the legendary Biju Babu, she was deeply rooted in Odiya culture. Saddened to hear of her demise. My deepest condolences to Shri @naveen_odisha ji and the bereaved family. Prayers for the departed soul, Om Shanti,’ JSP Chairman said.
Born in 1943 to Biju and Gyan Patnaik in New Delhi, Gita Mehta had completed her education in India and University of Cambridge in the UK. She had written three books Karma Cola, Snake and Ladders, A River Sutra, Raj and The Eternal Ganesha.
