RANCHI/NEW DELHI: The state unit of Election Commission of India (ECI) has started releasing the counting of votes of the 81 assembly seats that went to polls in five phases from November 30 to December 20. As per Election Commission trends, Congress-JMM-RJD alliance wins 45 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins 22 seats. Results of 9 seats remain to be declared by midnight.
The Exit polls have predicted a hung House in the 81-member assembly but have given the Congress-JMM alliance an edge over the BJP. Former CM Raghubar Das has submitted his resignation to governor Draupadi Murmu, at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Hemant Soren wins Dumka assembly constituency by margin of 13188 votes & Barhait assembly constituency by margin of 25740 votes. “Congratulations to @HemantSorenJMM Ji and the JMM-led alliance for the victory in the Jharkhand polls. Best wishes to them in serving the state,” the Prime Minister Narendra Modi twitted.
BJP was contesting alone while the Congress was contesting the polls in alliance with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) as a junior partner.
The All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), were also in the fray and contesting on their own.
While the Congress-JMM alliance is banking on tribal anger to romp home and have been attacking the Raghubar Das government for being corrupt, the BJP, on its part, focused its campaign around nationalism, triple talaq and Ram Mandir.
