BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal said that a total 75.60. per cent of the 2.21 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 7 pm on Wednesday in the Jharsuguda assembly seat by-election which was held peacefully.
Dhal said of the 2,21 lakh voters, 1.51 lakh people have already exercised their franchise by 5 pm in the all the 253 polling stations and the final vote percentage is likely to be similar to the 2019 Assembly election when the turnout was 75.62 per cent
A total of 9 candidates including Naba Das’s daughter Dipali Das (BJD), Tankadhar Tripathy (BJP) and Tarun Pandey (Congress) were in fray for the by-poll.
A total of 1814 Police personnel (including 155 Police Officers, 17 platoon of Armed Police, 323 Havildars/Constables and 205 Home Guards) and 07 companies of CAPF were deployed for the Poll. CAPF is being deployed in 144 nos. of booths.
