BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: The members of the IPS Association (Odisha Branch) have been shocked by the sad demise of Surendra Nath Swain, Retired IG of Police. A condolence meeting in this regard was held today at State Police Hdqrs, Cuttack in virtual mode under the Chairmanship of DGP Abhay.
The members present in the meeting cherished the memories of late Swain and offered floral tribute to the departed soul. Two minute silent prayer was observed by the members. The association members also expressed their heartfelt grief and solace to the family members of the former Police Officer. A native of Kendrapara District, the veteran Police officer served in various capacities in State Police till his retirement in June, 2004.
CMD, OPH & WC M. Akhaya, ADGP Hdqrs Lalit Das, ADGP (L&O) Y.K. Jethwa, Director Intelligence R.K. Sharma, IGP (Modernization) Sanjay Singh, IGP (Provisioning) Yatindra Koyal, IGP (Personnel) S. Praveen Kumar(IGP, Law and Order) and others were present in the meeting.Honorary Secretary of the Association Saumendra Priyadarshi conducted the programme.
The 1977 batch IPS officer Swain passed away at 76 on Monday. “We are saddened to learn about sudden demise of Shri Surendranath Swain a retired IPS officers of 1977 batch.He was known for his sincerity,hard work , and honesty .Odisha Police will miss him .Our condolences to his family and friends,” Odisha DGP had earlier tweeted.
Swain had joined the Odisha Police force in December 1981. Appointed DIG Odisha in 1994, he held several important posts like DIG (Admin), CR Cuttack, Vigilance Cuttack, Director of Sports & YS Dept and Tech (PMT) Cuttack.
He was promoted to IGP in April 2001 and served as Director, Printing Stationery & Publication, Odisha, before retiring in 2004. Swain born in Sisua village under Rajkanika Police Station in Kendrapara. He worked in several establishments of Odisha including IGP Central Range.
