Indian Embassy in Kathamandu take serious note Nepali Student Suicide case in KIIT Deemed University in Odisha , says Ministry of External Affairs Monitoring the case with Odisha Government

BHUBANESWAR:   The Indian Embassy in Kathamandu in Nepal has taken serious note Nepali Student Suicide case in  KIIT Deemed University in Odisha in eastern India.

Nepali student Prisha Shah found hanging inside KIIT Deemed University campus in Bhubaneswar in Odisha in eastern India on Thursday evening. Her body was later shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar for the postmortem, which will be held on Friday after the arrival of her family members. Shah’s parents are scheduled to reach Bhubaneswar later, on Friday.

Earlier, the university came in the line of fire following the suicide of a Nepali female student, Prakriti Lamsal, on February 16 and the subsequent assault on other Nepali students by the private educational institution’s security guards. Bhubaneswar Police have registered cases and investigating into the issue.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic demise of a Nepali student of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” Indian Ambassador in Kanthamandu said in statement on Friday afternoon.

The Indian Embassy in Kathamandu said  “ Indian Ministry of External Affairs has been in touch with the Odisha Government since we became aware of the tragic incident,”.  “The State Government of Odisha has extended ful support to the family of the deceased and a thorough enquiry is currently being conducted by the Odisha Police,” Indian Diplomats in Kathamandu said.

The Embassy also said  “ Government of India takes the safety , security and wellbeing of all International students very seriously,”  adding “ we remain in close contact with the Nepali authorities, the Odisha Government as well as KIIT management to ensure real time communication and coordination in this matter.

Foreign Affairs Minister of Nepal, Arzu Rana Deuba, on Friday expressed deep grief over the death.

KIIT University in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar is being run by former BJD Rajya Sabha MP Dr Achyuta Samant and has been in news for all reasons in recent days including students suicide.

The Nepal Government has taken steps through diplomatic channels to unravel the truth behind the tragic death of the Nepali student. The Ambassador of Nepal to India, Dr Shankar P Sharma, also asserted that the Embassy is closely coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Odisha Government, police, and the university authorities for a thorough investigation into the case.
