Immunization against COVID-19 Continuing in Full Swing at IMS-SUM

BHUBANESWAR:The vaccination drive against Covid-19 at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here has been continuing in full swing with the inoculation team achieving 100 per cent target since the launching of the vaccine on January 16.

Covaxin, the vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech with National Institute of Virology, Pune and Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), is being administered at the hospital.“The vaccine is presently being administered to medical and sanitation workers which is being monitored by the Directorate of Family Welfare, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and National Health Mission,” Prof. Pusparaj Samantasinhar, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said.

Prof. Samantasinhar said no adverse report had come to the fore since the vaccination began on Saturday.While the immunization programme was being supervised by the medical superintendent, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Lenka, Additional Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ajay Kumar Jena, Additional Dean, IMS and SUM Hospital, Dr. Lipilekha Patnaik and Dr. Braja Kishore Behera, Nodal Officer and Additional Nodal Officer respectively of Covaxin Immunization Programme, Dr. E.Venkat Rao, Principal Investigator of the Covaxin clinical trial, Dr. Sumitra Pattnaik, Professor of Community Medicine, Dr. Samir Sahu, Head of department of Medicine, Dr. Mamata Mohanty, Head of department of Pediatrics, Dr. Jagdish Sahoo, Head of department of Neonatology, Dr. Shakti Bedanta Mishra, Head of Critical Care and doctors from other departments actively participated in the campaign.
