BHUBANESWAR: Till 12.30 pm most of the places in Bhubaneswar witnessed temperature above 37 or 38 degree Celsius on Monday. Bhubaneswar recorded 31 degrees Celsius by 8 am while it’s crossed 36-37 degree Celsius in the noon, resulting a very heat and hot weather condition in this Odisha Capital City.
Roads wore a deserted look during most part of the day and there is an increase in cases of heat-related ailments like heat-exhaustion, sunburns, and dehydration among people who went out against the fire-spewing sun.
Bhubaneswar unit of India Meteorological Department said there will be no change in the maximum temperature during the next two to three days in Odisha. However, the IMD had predicted a rise in the maximum temperature by two to three degrees thereafter over the districts of Odisha.
The oppressive weather disrupted normal life, dry winds and high humidity levels have made life miserable, especially for those working out like the traffic police, vendors, and delivery boys. Even though the morning classes have begun from today in many schools, guardians say that if such temperature persists it will be tough for the kids to return home by 11:30 am under the scorching heat conditions.
Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu had held a video conferencing with Collectors and district officials to sensitise on lightning and thunderstorms.
The Odisha SRC emphasised on wider warning dissemination involving all stakeholders and PRIs. MD, OSDMA, officers from IMD, SRC office and OSDMA were present in the meeting. The SRC instructed officials to communicate such warnings up to community level & to all stakeholders through local media, social media, field officials, PRI members and volunteer groups to save precious lives.
