BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha chapter of People for Animal on Sunday filed an FIR with Police against an OLA driver for killing four dogs. Sources said the sad incidence of hit and run causing killing of Four Dogs(puppies) by a Motorist who is an Ola driver Mr.Kanhu Charan Giri on Sunday around 10.45 AM in front of Highland Residence in Sailashree Vihar area of the city.
The incidence was witnessed by the security of the Highland residence and Alisha Goutam Choubey resident of that Apartment. The witnesses tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped past them and fled away. The vehicle is a light motor vehicle bearing regd No.OD 02 AP 7424 white colour TATA Bolt ran over on the puppies killing it on the spot.
“ As we are a local registered animal welfare organisation they informed us about the incidence and after collecting all information from the witnesses we filed FIR against the driver in Chandrasekharpur Police station. Police registered the case to arrest the driver for this cruel act as per the provision in the law. This act of cruelty violating many acts and rules under different sections and the person responsible should be arrested. This killing of dogs is illegal under section 428 (mischief of killing and maiming animal) which is punishable and amounting both imprisonment and fine. This is also violation of 279 of IPC and 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. It is also violation of section – 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960,” PFA State Secretary JB Das said.
People for Animals demanding for arrest of such rash drivers and also cancel their driving licences that are killing the innocent creatures. In this regard PFA shortly organise workshop to aware the police personnel and traffic police about the laws that protects animal from cruelty.PFA will also develop an IEC (Information, Education & Communication) booklet to circulate in all police stations and traffic personnel so that the innocent animals can be saved from any type of cruelty.
