KALAHANDI/BHUBANESWAR: An outlawed left-wing rebel was gunned down in a fierce gun battle with security forces in the Sagada forest of Kalahandi district on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel had conducted a search operation in the area. Spotting the police, the rebels resorted to indiscriminate firing. The security forces had to retaliate in self-defence. However, the ultras taking advantage of the dense forest and hilly terrain, fled from the spot.
During search, a dead body of a Maoist was recovered from the encounter site. The identity of the deceased rebel was yet to be ascertained.
