HC rejects Bail Plea of Rs 840 Crore Uliburu Mining Scam Accused Fugitive Hari Charan Gupta

CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR:  The Orissa High Court has rejected the bail plea of Fugitive Hari Charan Gupta, one of the accused in Rs 840 Crore Uliburu Mining scam in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

Hari Charan Gupta is father of main accused Deepak Gupta and Champak Gupta. Cases have been registered against Deepak Gupta, his brother Champak Gupta, father Hari Charan Gupta, Wife Nitu Gupta and mother Kanta Gupta.

Main accused Deepak was arrested while his father Hari Charan Gupta is on run since last 9 years. Sources said, Hari Charan has been under Vigilance scanner while the accused successfully evading arrest. Hari Charan has approached Orissa HC for bail but the HC bench led by Justice Debabrata Das rejected his bail plea and asked him to surrender before lower court.

The State Vigilance had arrested Deepak on September 5, 2013 and the chargesheet submitted on December 31 the same year named him as the prime accused in the mining scam. He was accused of misappropriating crores of rupees during the period from 2004 to 2009 by illegally mining iron ore in Uliburu reserve forest in Keonjhar in connivance with officials of Mining, Forest and Revenue departments.
