BHAWANIPATNA/BHUBANESWAR: Two hardcore Maoists namely Ranjit Naitam aka Butlu aka Dharmu (Area Committee Member) and Unga Poyam aka Rajesh (PartyMember) of Mahanadi Area Committee operating under Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Division of CPI (Maoist) surrendered before DGP Odisha SK Bansal at Kandhamal.
Both these surrendered Maoist cadres are of Chhattisgarh origin. They were the members of 8th Company of CPI (Maoist) and tasked to reactive the North-South corridor from Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh though South-Central Odisha.
They were working in CPI (Maoist) organization since2017 and were involved in several violent incidents both in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. They were in touch with SP, Boudh for quite some time to surrender and live a normal life.
According to them, they were disturbed and frustrated by the continuous unethical activities in Maoist organization like sexual harassment of female cadres, extortion of funds through intimidation and induction of young boys and girls in the organization by false promise and propaganda.
They also expressed that they were disillusioned by the highhanded activities and rude behaviour of senior leaders towards the lower ranked cadres. They were also attracted towards the policies of the Government towards the development and upliftmentof the tribal people. They were assured by SP, Boudh that they would be suitably rehabilitated under the Surrender & Rehabilitation Scheme of the
Government, which extends financial assistance, homestead land, house building assistance, education assistance and vocational training with monthly stipend. While welcoming the two surrendered Maoist cadres to the main stream society, DGP, Odisha, appealed the Maoists to shun violence, join the mainstream society and partake in the process of development and tribal upliftment. He stated that the anti-Maoist operation will be further intensified in the affected areas till the problem is completely stamped out from the State.
