BHUBANESWAR: This photo was taken on March 27, 2018, when the 2006 batch IPS officer hailing from State’s coal and industrial rich Dhenkanal , Anup Sahoo, an Economics alumni of JNU, took the baton of Temple City as DCP replacing Satyabrata Bhoi of 2004 batch.
Since March, 2018, till July, 2020, Sahoo, served around 2.4 years as DCP of Bhubaneswar. During his tenure, along with then Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty, now DG (Home Guards and Fire Services), he had smoothly conducted 2019 general elections in high profile State Capital.
“Anup , as he known as ‘Crowd Manager’ IPS officer for his management skills during Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath as Puri SP and well as controlling industrial unrest in mineral rich Jajpur , too also did well in Bhubaneswar as DCP. His exemplary commitment during last general elections, Hockey World Cup and his term as Puri SP was also really praise worthy,” added a former DG.
A Senior IGP rank officer also admitted that Anup played a key role during the last Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar. “During his tenure as DCP of Bhubaneswar, night patrolling was interfiled and for which theft and snatching cases during night were on decline,” added senior Journalist.
Soon after elevated to DIG rank, Sahoo posted in most high profile Intelligence Wing, directly monitoring by the CMO while his IAS wife Rupa Sahu too serving at the Third Floor.
Before being the DIG (Intelligence), Sahoo served as SP of Puri, Jajpur, Bhadrak and DCP of Bhubaneswar with additional charge of Additional Police Commissioner for some months till his transfer.
In the recent reshuffle, 2008 batch IPS officer and Puri SP Uma Shankar Dash had been shifted and posted as DCP of Bhubaneswar in place of Sahoo. Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh of 2009 transferred and posted as Puri SP in place of Dash while Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh shifted and posted as DCP, Cuttack.
