BHUBANESWAR: With Odisha Train mishap death toll reached at 288 while more than 1,050 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in this eastern Indian State of Odisha, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz has expressed his grief over the sad accident.
‘I am deeply saddened by the train accident in #India with hundreds of dead and injured. My thoughts are with the victims, the injured and their families. Germany stands by India in this difficult time,’ Germany Chancellor Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz said in a tweet.
Three trains including two passenger trains- Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express- were involved. A goods train and two passenger trains had collided after one of the train’s coaches derailed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before leaving for Odisha’s held a high-level meeting with railway officials regarding the worst ever rail accident that claimed over 238 lives and injured 700 people.
The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted:“PM Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to take stock of the situation in the wake of the train mishap in Odisha. Aspects relating to rescue, relief and medical attention to those affected were discussed in the review meeting.”“PM Narendra Modi is leaving for Odisha where he will review the situation in the wake of the train mishap.”
