BHUBANESWAR: Former Odisha Cadre IPS officer Arun Kumar Upadhyay sought a probe into NGO Odisha Vikas Parishad.  In a letter to Odisha Chief Secretary and Secretary to Chief Minister, the former IGP, Upadhyay request to verify antecedents of the NGO Odisha Vikas Parishad whose whole job was to stop Rath Yatra by PIL in Supreme Court.

“In Civil appeal number 1134, 1135 of 2002, State of Uttaranchal vrs Balwant Singh and others (attached), Supreme Court had directed that any NGO filing PIL should be verified whether it is genuine organization. Odisha Vikas Parishad was used to get order from Supreme Court to stop Rath Yatra (Writ petition 570 of 2020),” the former IPS officer, said.

“This organisation has not been registered nor has it done any other work except opposing Rath Yatra. So far, it has not been verified. Persons behind it should be verified and punished as they wasted time of Supreme Court and Honourable Chief Minister had to hurriedly convene meeting to arrange Rath Yatra,” Upadhyay said.

The plea filed by NGO Odisha Vikas Parishad claimed that presently the entire nation including Odisha is facing an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19, where the lives of the common people are at a huge risk, for which such gatherings shouldn’t take place. A group of people had allegedly hurled eggs at the residence of Sushant Padhi, president of Odisha Vikash Parishad. Sushant Padhi hails from Jajpur.
