BARGARH: October is globally observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, often referred to as “Pink October.” On Saturday, Fighters Group organized an inspiring and informative program at Gandhi Bhawan in Bargarh. The event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and treatment, focusing on empowering women with crucial information.
Program coordinator and Fighters Group member Ashima Bisoi warmly welcomed the attendees and introduced the esteemed guests. Senior members Suryakanti Sikandar and Jayshree Panda honored the guests with traditional tokens of welcome and bouquets.
Ashima Bisoi shared insights on the significance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, emphasizing the need for early detection and education, especially in rural areas where awareness is often limited.
She pointed out that women in these areas tend to hide breast cancer symptoms due to a lack of awareness, pushing themselves into greater risk.
Cancer survivor and Fighters Group member Pushpanjali Behera shared her journey of battling breast cancer shortly after losing her husband to the same disease. Through her story of struggle and triumph, she conveyed hope and encouraged the audience with her resilience and optimism, showing that breast cancer is not a death sentence but a challenge that can be overcome with proper support and awareness.
Guest speaker and gynecologist Dr. Shakti Tripathi discussed “Breastfeeding and Cancer Risk,” explaining that breastfeeding can significantly reduce the chances of developing breast cancer due to certain biological mechanisms. She encouraged new mothers to consider the long-term health benefits of breastfeeding.
Renowned cancer specialist Dr. Bharat Chandra Mishra elaborated on breast cancer, stressing the importance of self-awareness for women at all stages of life. He noted that many women neglect their health, which can lead to complications. Social taboos and fears often prevent women from seeking help at the early stages, which later develop into severe conditions. Dr. Mishra emphasized that women can overcome these challenges by becoming aware and seeking medical assistance. His talk highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention, alongside advancements in medical treatment and regular screening.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session where attendees eagerly cleared their doubts and concerns with guidance from experts. Fighters Group expressed gratitude to guest speakers and participants, with senior member Amruta Behera acknowledging the support from various organizations and the women present.
Participants appreciated Fighters Group’s commitment to fostering awareness, hope, and resilience within the community, hoping it would inspire further discussions on breast cancer prevention and support.
