BHUBANESWAR: BJP MP from Odisha’s Sungargarh and Chairman , Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, Jual Oram on Monday written a letter to Union Civil Aviation and Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to develop Rourkela Airport under UDAN Scheme.
“The 3 Airports , Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Jeypore in Odisha are selected for development under UDAN scheme but of these 3, Jharsuguda Airport is only 1 in operation while 2 under development. Due to lack of air connectivity in Rourkela, the business, the faculty and campus selection of educational institutions is getting adversely affected” BJP MP Oram wrote to Union Minister Scindia.
‘Rourkela Airport meets all technical requirements of commercial flights and is suitable for expansion to 3C Category with construction of terminal building , extended runway and other periphery development,’’ the MP said.
‘Work on the Rourkela Airport is going slow and it needs to be expedited and flight operations should started at the earliest as Hockey World Cup is going to be held from January 13, 2023 at Rourkala,” Oram argued.
