BHUBANESWAR: Leader of Opposition in Odisha State Assembly, Pradipta Kumar Naik was on Tuesday written a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to impose a ban on sale of liquor and non-veg foods on Grand Road leading to the 12th Century old Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Naik in his letter has argued that, tens of thousands throng to see the Lords on Grand Road once in a year during Chariots festival but the present sale of liquor and non-veg foods have been creating an uncivilised atmosphere outside the Shree Mandir and also on Grand Road.

Naik’s allegation bears significance with reports of many late night untoward incidents happening in Puri town.

Naik also pointed out that most of the Hotels and Bars on Grand Road in Puri sales liquor and non-veg foods and even some running this till late night creating a lot of trouble for out station tourists in night times.

The Opposition Leader while thanking the Chief Minister Patnaik for his personal effort to make Puri  a World Heritage City, also urged the State Government to look into the issue and take necessary steps as soon as possible.
