BHUBANESWAR: Renowned engineer Sudhir Kumar Samarendra Narayan, popularly known as SKS, the former Director of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, passed away in early evening on 30th July after a short illness. Shri Narayan was born on March 26th, 1942 in Karanjia to lawyer and theatre personality, Sudhir Chandra and activist Saila Bala. A brilliant academician, he graduated top of his class from the REC Rourkela with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering in 1965 and joined Rourkela Steel Plant the same year. He was a trailblazer in his field, much ahead of his times and has left an indelible mark.
He had served in various high positions before joining the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in 1990 where he rapidly climbed the corporate ladder to the rank of Director until his retirement in 2003. Sudhir Narayan received many awards for excellence in service and has left behind a legacy to be reckoned with.
Post retirement he chose to settle down in Bhubaneswar where he retained his active social life as a veteran Rotarian and a life member of INTACH. He was very active in social work and community service. He is survived by his wife Nalini Narayan and his children Sonali and Samir.
