CUTTACK:The battle for the 2024 election grounds is now in the courtroom. Today is the ‘ordeal’ day for the three influential MLAs of the state. The Odisha High Court will deliver its much-awaited verdict today, ending the legal tussle over the public opinion polls in Jharsuguda, Chandbali and Rourkela. The entire state is now watching the verdict delivered by Justice Shashikant Mishra on whether the MLA post will remain or the path will be cleared for by-elections.
The defeated candidate Deepali Das approached the High Court challenging the election of BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathi, who won from Jharsuguda constituency. The hearing was going on for a long time on allegations of irregularities and violation of rules in the property list. Deepali has raised allegations of concealment of information in the affidavit filed during the election, and its final decision will be announced today.
Similarly, the case filed by Kishore Kumar Nayak against Chandbali MLA Byomkesh Roy has been pending for almost one and a half years. On the other hand, some other rivals, including the defeated candidate from Rourkela, Dilip Roy, have challenged the victory of Sarada Prasad Nayak. This is being discussed a lot in the political circles as there are multiple petitions in Sarada’s name.
