BHUBANESWAR: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday conducted raids at residence and offices linked to former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President and former Minister Niranjan Patnaik, who also happened to elder brother of media baron Soumiya Ranjan Patnaik.
The exact reason behind ED raids not known, but sources said, it was linked to tax evasion.
Sources indicate that the raid is currently ongoing at Patnaik’s home, situated in the Nayapalli area of the state capital. Raids going on since today morning.
Days back, central agency had also carried out raids on the houses of Opposition BJD Chip Whip Pramilla Mallik’s brother late Khirod Mallik’s residence in New Delhi and three places in Sambalpur on Wednesday in connection with an alleged financial fraud amounting to Rs 231 crore. The raids were carried out for the second day on Thursday as well. Mallik’s NGO-Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA), is under scrutiny for purportedly misusing a significant amount of funds.
