Economic Offence Wing nabs 2 more Fraudsters in Illegal Loan APP Case

BHUBANESWAR: EOW Odisha arrested two more fraudsters namely Rakshith and Sushanth, (both are(resident of Udupi District, Karnataka) from Bhubaneswar on dt.10.06.2022 in EOW PSCase No.9 dated 21.04.2022 U/s 294/506/507/420/467/468/120-B IPC & 66 D of IT Act,2000. Both the arrested persons will be produced before the Hon’ble Court of SDJM,Bhubaneswar today i.e. on 11.06.2022.

The accused persons are director of following illegal shell companies;

1. MUDMATE TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED

2. YELLOW TUNE TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED

3. PINKLEAF ARYAN COMMUNICATIONS PRIVATELIMITED

The above noted arrested persons being the Directors of above companies in connivance with others were facilitating the transaction of illegal lending and recovery process of the loans given through illegal digital loan apps like KOKO, JOJO and many other Apps. They were doing this in connivance and collaboration with many other shell companies like IWT-India etc. they were also managing a call centre from Bangalore which used to make threatening and humiliating calls and massages to victim loanees and their contacts. They have disclosed many important information which gives indication towards a very complex and well organized racket, the details of which is being investigated.

Earlier accused Md. Javed Saifi the proprietor of IWT-India and Sri Tarun Kumar Dudeja, the Proprietor of Digital Batua and other dubious/Shell companies have been arrested in this case and an amount of around Rs.6.57 Crore lying in accounts of M/s Mahagram Payment Pvt. Ltd. has been frozen. Also 41 post paid JIO SIM Cards in the names of various persons to be used in the mule accounts have been seized from Tarun Kumar Dudeja. 1058 virtual accounts belonging to Mahagram payments used to run the scam have been frozen. Also accused Ram Shriram Pathade, Managing Director of Mahagram Payments Pvt. Ltd., (a resident of Sonam Heights, Mumbai) was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi on 25.05.2022.Google has been requested to TAKE DOWN/ REMOVE the illegal Loan Apps from their play store. RBI has also been requested to take strict action against these illegal loan Apps.

 Advisory on Illegal Loan Apps

In order to contain these types of crime and to create general awareness among the public, it is hereby advised/ requested to the public that not to take any loans from unregistered/illegal loan apps available on Internet and Play Store as the loan apps on pretext of advancing loan, access/ hack all information from the customers phone, which may later be used by the company to perpetrate some other financial crime. Such loan apps also harass the customer by charging not only a high rate of interest but on failure to repay the same, harass them by sending obscene and indecent representation of the customers photos to their contact list. Hence, on failure of repayment of loan, the consequences has to be borne not only by the customer but also by their family members and friends/contacts. Many times money is also credited just after downloading the APP without actually asking/requesting money.

In some states, many people have committed suicide being blackmailed/continuously humiliated by the recovery agents of these illegal loan APPs. Not only the borrowers but their family members are also harassed. All are advised that one should avoid downloading/ using these illegal loan APPs.

Even if someone has already downloaded/ taken loan, they should not surrender/ tolerate the abusive/ harassing behavior/ torture but instead report the matter to police. And in no case they should take the extreme steps like committing suicide.

1. Please do not give your documents for opening of bank accounts to be operated by someone else and also don’t allow anybody to use your SIM to be used by someone else. These things can be used for illegal purposes.

2. Please don’t surrender to abusive/ torturous method of recovery agents of these Loan App companies. Report the matter to local Police.
