NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Election Commission announces Schedule for General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra, 2019 as also the Schedule for bye-elections to fill casual vacancy in the Parliamentary Constituency & State Legislative Assemblies of various States/UTs.

Election Commission announced the Schedule for General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra, 2019 as also the Schedule for bye-elections to fill casual vacancy in the Parliamentary Constituency & State Legislative Assemblies of various States/UTs.

The terms of the Legislative Assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra are due to expire on November 2nd and 9th, 2019 respectively. The Election Commission of India (hereinafter ECI) is committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections to these two legislative assemblies before the cessation of their respective terms in exercise of the authority and powers conferred upon under Article 324 read with Article 172 (1) of the Constitution of India and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Meanwhile, the ECI said, by-polls to Bijepur will be held on October 21 and results will be announced October 24.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was elected from Bijepur in Western Odisha district of Bargarh and Hinjili, his traditional seat in South Odisha but the BJD boss kept the South and left the West. BJD may field Rita Sahu, widow of late former MLA Subala Sahu.
