BHUBANESWAR:The Odia and Kannada e-versions of ‘Lilavati’s
Daughters: The Women Scientists of India’, edited by Late Prof. Rohini Godbole
and Prof. Ram Ramaswamy, depicting the journey of 100 top-notch women
scientists of India, were launched at the 91 st annual meeting of the Indian
Academy of Science, Bengaluru, held at Indian Institute of Science Educaion and
Research (IISER), Tirupati, on Saturday.
The book was first published by Indian Academy of Science, Bengaluru, in
English in 2008 and subsequently a Malayalam edition had been released.
The Odia and Kannada e-versions of the book were released by Prof.
Raghavan Varadarajan of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The Odia version,
titled ‘Lilavatinka Sateka Kanya’, was translated into the language by Prof.
Nachieketa K. Sharma and Dr. Deepak K. Pattanaik of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan
Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar.
Prof. Sharma, who was present at the program, was felicitated by Prof.
Varadarajan.The Women in Science Panel and the Academy Trust are partnering with
Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan in organizing the 4 th edition of the popular SOA Fortnightly
Lecture Series (SOAFAL) where scientists featuring in ‘Lilavati’s Daughters’ are
invited to speak on their scientific journey. This has also featured in the Annual
outreach activities of the Academy. The lectures are compiled into an Annual
Commemorative Issue named ‘SOAFAL MALA’, the Volume IV of which was
released by the SOA Founder President Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak recently.
