BHUBANESWAR: The former Union Minister and Mayfair Hotels Group Chairman, Dilip Ray has expressed serious concern over dust pollution in Steel city of Rourkela and alleged that pollution in Rourkela is increasing at an alarming rate, exposing the citizens to grave health issues.
Citing Dust pollution in Rourkela is increasing at an alarming rate, exposing the citizens to grave health issues and sluggish execution of the road construction works, inter alia, has led to the emergence of this menace, the former Union Minister Ray written a letter to Chief Minister Odisha Naveen Patnaik in this regard urging him to urgently intervene in this matter and direct the authorities to expedite the execution of the ongoing projects along with ensuring mandatory sprinkling of water at regular intervals.
“I am writing this letter to seek your immediate attention towards alarming level of dust pollution in Steel city Rourkela . On Marh 8, as per the statement of OSPCB, the level of PM 2.5 and PM 10 was 5 times higher than the desired level of pollution on the citizens. such was the seriousness of the situation that it made national headlines. Though, emergency measures were taken by the district administration that led to some sort of relief but the problem remains far from being solved,” Ray wrote to Chief Minister Patnaik. The condition is in particularly more miserable in the Panposh-Kachery Road which remains engulfed in a cloud of dust 24/7, the former Union Minister said. Ray requested Chief Minister Patnaik to direct OSPCB and local Pollutions officials along with district administration to take necessary steps as soon as possible keeping the ground realities in hand.
