BHUBANESWAR:The East Coast Railway has registered an impressive performance in freight and passenger traffic in the first half (April-September) of the current financial year 2025-26, achieving significant growth over the same period of the previous year.
During April-September 2025, the East Coast Railway route transported 137.6 million tonnes of freight as compared to 123.6 million tonnes in the same period last year, showing a growth of 11.33%.
Freight traffic also contributed significantly to the revenue growth. The East Coast Railway earned ₹14,162.58 crore from freight traffic, as against ₹12,808.30 crore in the same period last year – a growth of 10.57%. The total revenue income of the zone in the first half of this year reached ₹15,571.08 crore, as against ₹14,227.18 crore in the same period last year, reflecting a growth of 9.45%.
In terms of passenger transport, the East Coast Railway route carried 48.21 million passengers during April-September 2025, as against 45.56 million passengers during the same period of the previous financial year – indicating a growth of 5.81%.
This sustained growth in freight and passenger traffic is the result of efficient planning, enhanced management, and proactive coordination with freight customers in key industries such as coal, iron ore, cement, and fertilizer.
The East Coast Railway has been playing a vital role in strengthening India’s logistics and supply chain network, contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth and dynamism.
