BHUBANESWAR/NEW DELHI: The ruling Biju Janata Dal Lok Sabha MP from Odisha’s tribal dominated, caste ridden , religious conversion hit Kandhamal district Dr Achyuta Samanta, who is also founder of KIIT Group, was on Thursday met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and demanded Sainik School for his Parliamentary Constituency and Kaling Regiment in Indian Defence Forces as dreamed by late legendary Biju Patnaik.
Dr Samanta in a letter addressed to Singh, argued that Odisha is significantly contributing to Indian Defence establishments while several senior Commissioned and JCO officers working with Defence Ministry were from Odisha and hundreds have sacrificed their life for the sake of the country.
Dr Samanta also requested that Kandhamal would be a suitable place to setting up a Sainik School or Army Public School, which will tap tribal talents. It may be noted here, Dr Samanta founded KIIT Group’s KISS, has its campus in Kandhamal and imparting free education to poor tribal students.
Dr Samanta, also reminded the long standing of demand of Odisha to create Kalinga Regiment in Indian Defence Forces.
“Met with Hon’ble Defence Minister Sri Rajnath Singh Ji and brought to his attention the need of having a Kalinga Regiment, considering Odisha’s prime position on the eastern seaboard, Biju Babu’s immense contributions, regional pride & other factors,” the BJD Lok Sabha MP Twitted.
