BHUBANESWAR:On the direction of Bhawani Sankar Udgada, Supdt of Police GRPS, BBSR & RPF/Post/BBS were commanded for patrolling duty against anti-social elements. During the drive on 15.01.2026 at about 07.40 PM, we went towards the running room of BBSR Station area to keep a close watch over the anti-socials. At about 09.00 PM, we saw some movement at an abandoned and dark place adjacent to the Railway track. At about 09.15 PM, we reached the spot very secretly and without any light and found 06 persons assembled and talking among themselves in hushed tones. We took cover behind the bushes of the spot which is very near to the Railway track and colony area where we could keep watch over the gang as well as the Railway station.
The spot was lonely and abandoned, and we found that the persons were preparing to commit a crime. In darkness of the night, we could not see the wearing apparel clearly, but it was found that three persons were using some kind of masks and their faces were covered. We confirmed the said gang was going to commit dacoity in running trains. Immediately, I along with the other staffs surrounded them. When knowing about the arrival of the police party, one person had fired one round pointing towards the sky to terrorize the police party.
However, we could round them with much difficulty and manage to apprehend them with one black color air bag. On being asked, the fired person first disclosed his name as 1. Shiba Prasad Sahoo, 40 yrs, S/O Madhusudhan Sahoo of Ekarabandha, PS- Bantala, Dist-Angul, A/P-Satyanagar, PS- Kharbela Nagar, BBSR and his associates’ name and address as 2. Sk Mani, 23 yrs, S/O Sk Salim of Masjid Colony, Unit-3, PS- Kharbela Nagar, BBSR; 3. Kartik Sahoo, 36 yrs, S/O Late Rajkishor Sahoo of Narasingh Ballav Patnaa Sahi, PS- Talabania, Dist- Puri; 4. Tofan Sethy, 26 yrs, S/O Late Narayan Sethy of NH Colony, Unit-3, PS- Kharbela Nagar, BBSR; 5. Raja Nayak, 23 yrs, S/O Gadadhar Nayak of Sundarpada, Kapilprasad, PS-Airfield, BBSR; 6. Basudev Nayak, 23 yrs, S/O Gadadhar Nayak of Sabanampradhan, PS- Balipatana, Dist- Khurda, A/P- Adibas Padia, Unit-1, PS- Capital, BBSR; and 7. Rabi Gouda, 28 yrs, S/O Basu Gouda, vill-Kanehipur, PS-Rambha, Ganjam, A/P- Labour Stand, Kalpana, PS- Badagada, BBSR.
On searching the accused Shiba Sahoo, we found one Revolver and 5 rounds of live ammunition and one round khoka from his possession and searching of the other persons found one bhujali, one screwdriver, one knife, chili powder packets.
All the suspect persons confessed that they were assembled to commit dacoity in trains running at night. There is no possibility that the general public should assemble with such dangerous articles and weapons. So, it is a punishable offence. Hence, I, along with the team, brought the suspects with the recovered articles.
