NUAPADA: In a significant step towards building a single-use plastic-free district, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Nuapada, on Saturday organized a public awareness and plastic waste cleaning program in front of the National College near Silda.
The initiative comes as part of the DLSA’s resolution to establish Nuapada as a district free from single-use plastics. The drive saw enthusiastic participation from judicial officers, government officials, legal volunteers, and members of the community.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Pragya Parmita Mohapatra, DLSA Secretary Navneeta Dash, Nuapada NAC Executive Officer Srinivas Mirdha, Government Advocate and Authority Member Trilokchand Soni, along with legal volunteers and authority staff, actively joined the campaign. Together, the participants collected over 150 kilograms of plastic waste from the surroundings.
Speaking on the occasion, DLSA Secretary Navneeta Dash urged citizens to adopt a plastic-free lifestyle and stressed the urgent need to curb single-use plastic consumption to protect the environment.“Plastic pollution is a silent threat to our ecosystem. A collective effort is essential to ensure a cleaner and healthier future,” she said.
The awareness program also highlighted the importance of community participation in sustainable waste management and encouraged residents, students, and institutions to reduce plastic dependency.
The DLSA has planned more such initiatives across the district to spread awareness and engage citizens in the mission to achieve a plastic-free Nuapada.
