NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar for granting an amount of ₹6.77 Crore to Odisha in the last 3 years under the National Bamboo Mission. This will further energize holistic development of bamboo ecosystem and support the bamboo industry of Odisha.
“Odisha is endowed with rich forest resources with bamboo accounting for one-third of the natural forests in the state. Bamboo contributes substantially to ensuring ecological, economic and livelihood security for the people in the state, especially for tribals and forest dwellers,” Pradhan said.
“With 30% of the budget allocation earmarked for women, the amount under National Bamboo Mission will enhance the income of small, marginal, women & tribal farmers by creating direct & indirect employment opportunities across the value chain of bamboo cultivation,” he said.
“National Bamboo Mission is also working towards skilling and up-skilling bamboo craftsmen as per market requirements. The Mission will help in augmenting income of farmers and also contribute significantly to climate resilience,” he added.
