NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: Union PNG-Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a meeting to review exploration activities and status of commercial production of oil and gas from discoveries made in the sedimentary basins of Mahanadi-Bengal-Andaman region.
ONGC Limited has made first commercial oil and gas discoveries at Asokenagar area in West Bengal. Dharmendra Pradhan exhorted to expedite oil production from these recent discoveries in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘s call for reducing oil imports & making India self-reliant in energy.
This will also be a significant development in placing West Bengal in the oil map of India and ushering new opportunities for the growth and development of West Bengal in sync with PM Modi’s vision of Purvodaya.
Significant gas reserves have also been mapped in the Mahanadi basin and around Andaman Islands. Minister Pradhan instructed to intensify exploration efforts to shore up domestic oil and gas production.
