DGP Reviews Law and Order Situation in Communal Violence hit Sambalpur

SAMBALPUR/BHUBANESWAR:  Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal on Saturday visited communal violence hit western town of Sambalpur along with Director Intelligence Sanjiv Panda and ADGP(Law and Order), RK Sharma and reviewed law and order situation in view of the imposition of curfew following tension over celebration of Hanuman Jayanti.

DGP Bansal, Director Intelligence Panda and ADGP(Law and Order), Sharma held detailed discussion with the present situation in Sambalpur with Northern Range IGP Deepak Kumar and local SP.

Stringent action will be taken against the persons involved in the violence in Sambalpur. Several platoons of police force have been deployed in the city. The situation will improve within a day or two, said the DGP

“No one will be allowed to disturb peace and order in the city. Police will take stern action. Sambalpur people need not fear. Normalcy will be restored within a day or two,’ he added.

Government State on Saturday extended suspension of the internet services in the western town of Sambalpur by 48 hours (two days). As per the order of State Home Department, access of internet and data services including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and other social media in violence-hit Sambalpur town will continue to be banned till 10 am of April 17, 2023

Section 144 had been imposed in the western Odisha town after the violence broke out between two groups during Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 12. At least 10 police personnel and several residents were severely injured in the clash while more than 30 people have been arrested till date in connection with the violence along with dozen over detained at various police stations.
