BHUBANESWAR:Comparing our state with other states of the country, many backward castes in our state have not been included in the National Backward Classes list. Although the number of backward classes in the state is 54 percent of the total population of the state, many backward castes have not been included in the National Backward Classes list. As a result, they are deprived of all the facilities and opportunities provided by the Central Government.

The previous state governments systematically deprived the backward classes of their constitutional rights. One of the main reasons for this is that the OBC Commission was not formed in Odisha for a long time after the Naba Das Commission recommendation in 1993. After repeated demands from the BJP, the previous government formed the OBC Commission under pressure, but it was not given full powers. The BJP OBC Morcha repeatedly drew the attention of the Central Commission to include the deprived castes in the National Backward Classes list.

But due to the extreme apathy of the then state government, this could not be implemented. Even in other states, there was provision for reservation of seats for backward classes in the field of education, but it was not implemented in Odisha. But after the BJP government came to power in the state in 2024, reservation was given for the first time in the field of education. For the development of backward classes, the popular Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has taken a historic decision and implemented 11.25% reservation in education for students belonging to the Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) category. . The development of backward classes is the priority of the double engine government, said OBC Morcha State President Shri Surtha Biswal.

In a press conference held at the state office, Shri Biswal said that; Keeping in view the overall, integrated and balanced development of the country, the National Backward Classes Commission Chairman Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir is visiting Odisha on the 29th to provide the constitutional rights intended for the backward classes.
The commission members, secretary and all the officers of the commission will be present with him. On this occasion, the commission chairman will hear from various castes of the state regarding their demands and receive relevant documents. Therefore, Shri Biswal has requested the representatives of the castes who are interested in expressing their demands in this regard to be present at the State Guest House on the 29th at 11 am and present their demands to the commission.
State Spokesperson Shri Anil Biswal, State Media Coordinator Sujit Das, OBC Morcha State General Secretary Gyanendra Swain were prominently present on the occasion.
