Cyclone Alert Issued For Odisha & Andhra

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a cyclone alert for Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

The IMD said the well marked low pressure area over south-east and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and is very likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression during the next 24 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move north-westwards towards Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 72 hours.

Speaking exclusively to OTV in New Delhi, IMD ADG Mrutyunjay Mahapatra informed, “The deep depression formed over Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm October 10 morning, which will slowly travel north-westwards towards North Andhra Pradesh and coastal Odisha. The next morning, wind speed is likely to reach 100kmph in south and coastal Odisha and North Andhra.”

SRC Bishnupada Sethi said, “We are in touch with the India Meteorological Department. We will alert all the district Collectors after getting the detailed information on the possible cyclone.”

The Meteorological department also forecast heavy rain in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in view of the depression.

“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over north Andaman Sea, south-east and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and Andaman Islands during next 24 hours. Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely over deep sea areas of central & adjoining north Bay of Bengal from October 8 to 10, 2018,” said the regional Met department in a statement.

WIND WARNING:

  • Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over north Andaman Sea, south-east and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Islands during next 24 hours.
  • Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely over deep sea areas of central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal from October 8 to 10, 2018.
  • Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to commence along and off along north Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal coast from tomorrow afternoon.
  • It is very likely to increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from October 10, 2018 evening onwards along and off south Odisha and adjoining districts of north Andhra Pradesh coasts and 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph along and off north Odisha, West Bengal and remaining districts of north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

As the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over north Andaman Sea and southeast & adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, and over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal during October 8 to 10, 2018, the fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas during this period.

Those, who are out in deep sea areas are advised return to the coast, said Met.

The National Disaster Management said that the State Governments are advised to keep a close watch and monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures.
