PURI/BHUBANESWAR: Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra and DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal visited Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and held discussions with the Collector Samarth Verma , SP K Vishal Singh and other officials inside the Temple premises in connection with vandalization of the ‘Chullahs’.
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has lodged a complaint at Singhdwara Police Station in this connection. Puri Collector Verma informed that an internal inquiry is also underway to identify the persons responsible for the incident.
An FIR has been registered at Singhadwar police station in connection on Monday under multiple Sections of the IPC and Section 30 (A), 4 (b) of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Act.
The case has been booked under Sections 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 295 (Destroying, damaging or defiling a place of worship or sacred object with intent to insult the religion of any class of persons) and 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), said SP Singh.
Hundreds of earthen ovens (Chullahs) at the Rosa Ghara (kitchen) of Jagannath temple had been vandalized by unidentified people on Saturday night hours after a clash between two groups at Ananda Bazar after Bada Singhara Besha of the deities.
