BHUBANESWAR:Today i.e. on 22.01.2026 Hon’ble Court of OPID cum Spl. Judge, Balasore Dist.Balasore convicted one drug peddler namely Bapi @ Ashok Kumar Behera S/o.
Late Pravakar Behera of Nayabazar, PS. Sahadevkhunta Dist. Balasore U/s. 21(c)/29
NDPS Act, 1985 in STF PS Case No.36 dt. 8.11.2021.
Basing on the evidence Hon’ble Court sentenced the accused person to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for 10 Years & to pay fine of 1 Lakh fine against each section and in default of payment of fine RI for 01 years.
In this case on 07.11.2021 while the accused person was trading contraband
brown sugar at Vegetable Market, Nayabazar, Balasore after procuring the same from
Jaleswar area was apprehended. During search contraband Brown sugar weighing
1052 gram was recovered from his possession.
The seized contraband Brown Sugar was sent to State Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical examination and received opinion. The Scientific Officer of SFSL, Rasulgarh opined that the seized contraband is of brown sugar (Diacetylmorphine/heroin). After successful investigation charge sheet was submitted against the accused person along with associate U/s. 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985.
During trial the prosecution has examined 08 Nos. of witnesses and exhibited 27 numbers relevant documents. The seized contraband brown sugar has already been destroyed as per order of the Hon’ble Court.
STF is the specialized wing of Odisha Police to curb the organized crime in the State. Narcotic drugs are one of the main focus areas of STF and STF will continue its drive against such narcotic peddlers.
