BHUBANESWAR: The Congress on Wednesday demanded a Crime Branch inquiry into the Kendrapada piped water scheme scandal in view of no feasibility report given by the IIT Hyderabad for it even if the State Government had got approval of the project basing on such a certificate.
Party State spokesperson Satya Prakash Nayak told reporters that it was the Congress which had first exposed the fake feasibility report issue and later it was confirmed through an RTI response from the IIT Hyderabad. The Rs 1,000-crore mega project to supply drinking water to Bhadrak proposed over river Kharasrota in Kendrapada was approved with a fake report of IIT Hyderabad, he said. Nayak said that to use a fake report to get environmental clearance is a crime, for which criminal proceedings should be initiated against the Kendrapada Collector and the RWSS Chief Engineer.
He also demanded that the Government stop construction of the project; the RWSS EIC be placed under suspension until an inquiry is made and the construction agency be blacklisted.Party spokespersons Manoj Mahapatra, Prasant Satpathy and Chnmaya Sundar Das were present at the Press meet.
