Commissionerate Police Intensifies Drive Against Drunken Driving under “Safe City Drive”

BHUBANESWAR:  In a sincere effort to reduce anti-social activities and to enhance road safety, the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack carried out an intensified drive against Drunken driving under the “Safe City Drive” initiative. The operation, which took place on saturday night, August 3rd 2024, resulted in the seizure of 69 vehicles.

Under the direct supervision of Commissioner of Police Sri Sanjeeb Panda, and DCP Prateek Singh, the enforcement drive was conducted by the police stations of Bhubaneswar, i.e. Capital, K.V. Nagar, Khandagiri, Airfield, Nayapalli, Saheednagar, Bharatpur,Badagada,Airport, Infocity, Lingaraj, Nandankana, Mancheswar, Laxmisagar, Maitribihar, C.S. Pur, Traffic P.S -I & II.

The drive was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Deputy Commissioners of Police Sri Prateek Shing DCP, BBSR UPD  targeting over 20 vulnerable points across Bhubaneswar by utilising 8 platoons of force.

During the operation, out of a total of 69 vehicles were seized for drunken driving. The BBSR- Traffic Police Station-I  and Traffic Police Station-II seized 36 vehicles including 13 numbers of two-wheelers and 23 four wheelers.

Vehicle like  Mercedes, MG Comet, Thar, Tata Harier, Kia Seltos, Tata Safari, Tata Nexon, Breeza etc are seized in this drive.

Total 11 vehicles seized in reverse riding using spikes.

At the all-police checkpoints, several violators attempted to evade police capture by making U-turns and driving dangerously in reverse under the influence of alcohol. Prepared for such eventualities, the police teams deployed spikes to halt and seize these vehicles. Cases will be filed in the court against violators. The violators  have to pay fines in the court and after obtaining release order, they will take their seized vehicles. Police has recommended the suspension of driving licenses to the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Criminal cases have been filed against 9 number heavily drunk drivers and reverse riding who tried to run over the police team driving recklessly in reverse direction and obstructing police in discharge of the duty. Adopting a “Zero Tolerance Approach,” Twin City Police Commissioner Sri Sanjeeb Panda  appealed to the public to refrain from  driving under the influence of alcohol as it is essential for ensuring road safety and protecting lives.

The safety of our citizens is our top priority. We urge everyone to refrain from  drunken driving,  as it poses significant danger not only to the violators but also to the public on the road.

The Commissionerate Police remain committed to enforcing traffic regulations strictly and will continue such drives to deter violators.
