BHUBANE SWAR: When Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian visited Boudh district on July 5 on the directions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, local people had submitted a letter demanding the construction of a barrage on the Khadag river.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Patnaik has approved the Khadag River basin project worth Rs 126 crore.
The project will benefit more than 20,000 people belonging to Boudh, Bolangir, and Kandhamal districts.
The project will be carried out near Ladgaon village of Baliguda block at a cost of Rs.126 crore. Earlier, the Technical Advisory Committee had approved the project.
The Khadag river basin project will be constructed without displacing anyone from their homestead and will help conserve river water. In addition, the project will meet the region’s drinking water needs during the monsoon, fish farming, and raise the groundwater level.
The 5T Secretary discussed the issue with the Chief Minister and informed him about the demands of the public. The Chief Minister accepted the request of the people and approved the project today.
