CITU Threatens Indefinite Strike against JSW Steel’s Anti-Labour Policy in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR/KOIRA/BARBIL: Centre for Indian Trade Unions(CITU), a CPI(M) led Labour organisation, has threatened go for indefinite strike from 1 February 2021 against JSW Steel’s anti workers policy in Odisha’s mineral rich Sundargarh and Keonjhar, where the company runs 4 Big size Iron Ore blocks.

CITU National Vice-President , Bishnu Mohanty said to mobilize common people to involve in strike , padayatra and street corner meetings will also be held in different pockets of the Koira Block in Sundargarh from Monday.

Mohanty said about 6 Railway siding at Bimalagarh, Barsuan, Roxy, Renjada, Pattasahi and Bandiposh about 12 thousand laborers have been engaged in loading job but due to anti-labour policies of JSW Steel, many are facing hardship, CITU leaders said.

 JSW Steel acquired 4 iron ore mines – Narayanposi, Ganua, Nuagaon and Jajang in the districts of Sundergarh and Keonjhar in Odisha in February, 2019 having known reserves of 1,131 million tonne. Once operational with full capacity, these mines are expected to produce around 36 MT per annum.
