Chief Secretary -5T Secretary Reviews Progress of Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela

ROURKELA/BHUBANESWAR: Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra flanked by 5T Secretary VK Pandian have reviewed the progress and on-going construction work for the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Steel City of Rourkela in Sundargarh. State’s Sports Secretary R Vineel Krishna was also present during the visit.

The under construction Stadium, having capacity of 20,000 seats and State of Art infrastructure , will be India’s Largest Hockey Stadium on its completion. IDCO, nodal agency of Government of Odisha for creation and development of Industrial Infrastructure in the State,  headed by Dr Krishan Kumar also coordinating the construction work.

All other allied amenities like multi-level parking area and dormitories for players will also come to a close within the deadline of July 2022. The 20000-seater Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, once completed, will become the largest hockey stadium in India. It will co-host the 2023 edition of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup along with the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone in February 2021 for the ambitious project which will come up on a 15-acre plot at an estimated cost of INR 120 Crore.
