BARCELONA/BHUBANESWAR: The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), an international summit focused on urban solutions and smart cities, has convened its largest edition to date in 2023. Taking place from November 7th to 9th, this year’s theme is “Welcome to the New Urban Era.” With over 1,000 exhibitors, 25,000 delegates, and representatives from more than 800 cities and 140 countries, the event is poised to be an influential platform for discussions on urban development and innovation.

CEO of BSCL and BMC Commissioner, Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, along with MD of CRUT, Shri Arun Bothra, took an active role in the event. During the event, Commissioner emphasized the crucial role of transportation in empowering society, aligning with the Digital India and Smart City mission initiated by the Government of India. He highlighted the importance of making public transportation more accessible, efficient, and transparent, while also maintaining discipline and adherence to timelines.

He further stressed in Odisha, specifically in Bhubaneswar (BBSR), the prevalence of private vehicles like cars and motorcycles remains relatively low. The general populace heavily relies on public transportation, and our aim is to enhance its quality and accessibility while ensuring transparency, adherence to schedules, and discipline within the public transport system. In this context, various applications are being developed to provide user-friendly information and access to public transportation.

The ‘Mo Bus’ application, developed by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, has been instrumental in this regard, building trust among citizens in the public transport system. Additionally, the establishment of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICOMC) plays a crucial role in monitoring these applications and their utilization.

He also emphasized the pivotal role of digital platforms in advancing transportation systems and collecting feedback from citizens, which is instrumental in further improvements and direct engagement with the public.

The Smart City Expo World Congress featured a distinguished lineup of 600 speakers, including renowned figures such as computer scientist Margaret Mitchell, AI-specialized lawyer Micaela Mantegna, and sustainable development expert Claire O’Neill, former UK Minister for Energy & Clean Growth.
