BHUBANESWAR: Rakesh Samal, SI at Capital PS here was on Thursday placed under suspension by DCP Anup Sahu on direction of CP Sudhanshu Sarangi for cheating a woman and threatening her with life. Samal has been booked under Sections 377, 313, 506, and 420 of the IPC.
Sources said the woman is a highly educated and hails from Kendrapara district. She works in a private company in the state capital. She came in contact with Rakesh on social media in August 2019. The lady has alleged that Rakesh befriended and established physical relationship with her. They were sharing a rented house here. He also promised to marry, but later evaded the suggestion.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that Rakesh tried to kill her when she told him in January 2020 that she is carrying his baby. She alleged that Rakesh thrashed her black and blue and threatened with a pistol to kill her if she does not abort the child. Rakesh forced her to take pills for aborting the child, she alleged.
The woman further alleged that Rakesh took Rs 5 lakh to purchase a car for her, but that never materialized. In her complaint, the woman said Rakesh suddenly stopped contacting her from March.Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi told reporters that appropriate action will be taken against the culprit and added that the police officer is absconding since one month. He has not even applied for leave, he added.
The woman had alleged that she had approached the women police station in this regard, but they suggested to take up the matter after COVID-19. Therefore, she decided to take up the matter with the Commissioner of Police to get justice.
