BHUBANESWAR:  Capital P.S Case No. 95, dated 26.02.2024, U/s- 376(2)(n)/417/403/420 IPC.

On 26.02.2024 at 10:52 PM Complaint Presented a written report at PS. She reported that she came in contact with the accused, Satyajit Managobind Samal, through the Jeevan Sathi Matrimonial site. They started conversing over the phone and meeting regularly, which led to a love relationship.

Later, the accused forced the complainant to maintain a sexual relationship under the pretext of marriage and demanded money to purchase a car. As a result, the complainant took a personal loan from SBI and purchased a Baleno car in her name, but the accused used it as if he was her husband. The complainant gave cash total Rs. 36 lakhs, including the new Baleno car, to the accused. When she demanded the return of her money and the car, the accused threatened to kill her showing a gun.

Based on her report, the above case was registered and duly investigated. During the investigation, the accused Satyajit Samal  was apprehended after a lot of effort and conducting a special operation(operation Dulhe Raja). During interrogation, he disclosed that he had taken Rs. 27 lakhs in cash in different phases, including the cost of the Baleno car (Rs. 8,15,000). The complainant had availed of personal loans from HDFC Bank, Bandhan Bank, ICICI, and SBI to meet the accused’s demands.

Furthermore, the accused had trapped another lady from BBSR to whom he had taken Rs. 8,60,000 and a Bullet motorcycle (Interceptor) worth about Rs. 3,50,000. The accused purchased the Baleno car with the assurance of leading a sophisticated lifestyle with the complainant but later denied returning the cash and car. He also cheated various other women on the pretext of marriage, taking lakhs of rupees from them. With sufficient evidence of cheating and other allegations as mentioned in the FIR, the accused Satyajit Samal was arrested and forwarded to the Hon’ble Court today. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover the money trail and other investments.

Modus Operandi of the Accused:-The accused deceives innocent women looking for prospective match by introducing himself as Police official or central government official. He mainly targets divorced women on marriage portal by promise of marriage. He also does marriage with them  as per marriage Act in order to give them confidence. He develops confidence  with them and later  cheats them by taking cash in various forms. He mainly tells them that he wants the money for starting some business.

After gaining lakhs of rupees, he purchases costly cars and motorcycles. The cars are then given to different travel agencies for rent. He is in habit of leading a lavish life on the money of innocent women. Intimate videos and chats with victims have been found from the phone of accused and there is allegation that he has threatened some victims by showing them firearms.

Date of Arrest:-Arrested on 02.08.2024 at 5.30 PM.

  5. Three mobile phones used in the cheating
  6. Frozen bank accounts (IOB, SBI & Axis Bank) totaling Rs. 1,75,000/-
  7. Two marriage agreement certificates

  2. Capital P.S Case No. 386, dated 02.08.2024, U/s-417/419/420/506 IPC/25/27 Arms Act

Further course of action—

  • Police will bring the accused on remand.
  • All the bank details of accused will be collected.
  • All other victims will be located and requested to join the investigation.
  • Police will write to the matrimony sites for getting more information on the arrested accused.
